GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Admission

Classes are open to adults.  Day high school students may enroll after obtaining special permission from their school counselor if class space is available.  Adults have priority over high school students in all classes.

 

Attendance

Attendance in all classes is the responsibility of the student.  High school students taking classes for credit and a diploma must attend classes regularly or they will be dropped from the course.  Classes missed for any reason, including late registration, are counted as absences. 

 

Counseling Services
Experienced counselors are available to assist students.  Students wishing to earn an adult education diploma must have a counseling appointment to ensure placement in the proper classes.

 

Minimum Class Size

All Community Education classes have a minimum and maximum class size as indicated.  In the event that a course does not have the minimum enrollment the class will either be cancelled or the number of course hours will be reduced.

 

Refunds and Transfers

The State of California does not fund all classes offered through adult education.  Classes not funded by the State are offered through the Community Education Program.  Student tuition fees cover only the basic cost of the class and are based on the number of students that enroll.  We will refund your full tuition in the event that your class is cancelled due to low enrollment.  If a class is not cancelled refunds will be granted only when the following guideline is met:  Refunds, minus a $5.00 processing fee, must be requested one week prior to the class start date. 

 

Registration Information

Adult Education classes require pre-registration.  For your convenience we have listed registration-closing dates at the end of each class description.  Exceptions to this policy are English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, and Citizenship where registration occurs on designated dates. Students wishing to enroll in High School Diploma or GED Preparation classes should call the Golden Oak office for a counseling appointment.  Counseling appointments will be scheduled between 6:30P and 9:00P, Monday-Thursday.

 

Rights and Responsibilities

The Hart School District will not tolerate intimidation or harassment of any student for any reason.  (From Governing Board Policy 5000).

Senior Citizen Discount

Most class tuition costs will be reduced 10% when you show proof of being at least 62 years of age.  Materials, fees, books and other fees are not discounted.

 

Sexual Harassment (EC 48980)

The governing board of the William S. Hart Union High School District prohibits unlawful sexual harassment of or by any student.  Any student who engages in the sexual harassment of anyone in or from the District is subject to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion.  Any employee who permits or engages in sexual harassment may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.  The governing board expects students and staff to immediately report incidents of sexual harassment to the principal or other administrator.

 

Uniform Complaint Procedures

The District has uniform complaint procedures as required in the Code of Regulation, Title 5, Sections 4600-4671. Complaints should be made to the district complaint officer, Darryl Adams at: (661) 259-0033, ext. 316.

 

Tobacco Free Workplace – No Smoking

The William S. Hart Union High School District Policy prohibits smoking on all district campuses and in district vehicles.  Students and employees are not allowed to smoke on school grounds, parking lots, or in parked vehicles.

 

WASC

Golden Oak Adult School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  Accreditation affirms quality of instruction and assures that course work taken at this school for credit will be accepted by other educational institutions.

Students will learn how to build a stained glass window. This course covers the basic techniques using lead came. Methods cutting glass for copper foil/sun catchers, cement/garden stepping stones, and three dimensional projects will also be covered. INTRO TO COMPUTERS USING WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM – 4 meetings

Problem solving, file search, file management, and creating shortcuts are featured.  You'll learn to take advantage of what the Internet has to offer. Your hard drive will last longer if you take care of it. A hard disk is like a closet, you need the biggest you can afford but it can quickly become a tangled mess. Before you know it, you need to do some cleaning up and clearing out. In this class, you will learn how to use the Operating System to delete files and programs that you no longer need, clean up ‘temp’ files, as well as scandisk & defrag your hard drive. Several comprehensive utilities to accomplish these tasks will also be demonstrated. You will also learn how to organize your hard drive after it has been cleaned. This class will teach you how to organize your photos, and how to manipulate them to make them more appealing. Did you just take a digital picture that came out on the dark side (underexposed)? No problem with APE, this class will teach you to salvage that photo and make it shine. Do you want to combine an element from one photo with another? Do you want to make a panoramic picture (that is taking two or more pictures and combining them into one)? Do you have a photo that has unwanted elements in it? No problem with APE. GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT

 

Testing and registration is at Golden Oak Adult School.

Testing dates are:

You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid California ID or United States passport to take the test. The test cost is $130 payable by exact cash or money order.

TEST PREPARATION PROGRAM

 

Test Prep Available:

These classes are designed to help students pass the General Education Development test that is recognized by many employers, vocational schools, and colleges as the equivalent of a high school diploma.  Emphasis in the classes will be placed on English and Math skills.

The test consists of five separate tests:

1. Math

2.Language Arts - Writing

3. Social Studies

4. Science

5. Language Arts - Reading

CREDIT REGULATIONS

Students attending a course at Golden Oak should plan on completing the entire sequence of instruction in the course to receive credit. Students are expected to attend 60 hours and satisfactorily complete the required work to receive 5 credits. A minimum of 5 credits must be earned at Golden Oak to receive a diploma.

All graduates must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

COUNSELING

Counseling services are available for students in the High School Diploma Program who need assistance with educational planning. Appointments can be arranged in the Golden Oak Office or by calling 253-0583.
