Gail Pinsker, a long-time Santa Clarita Valley resident and education advocate, has been named community liaison officer for the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District. The appointment was approved by the district Governing Board at its Wednesday evening meeting and is effective immediately.

Pete Getz, who has served as assistant principal at Canyon High School since 2007, has been named the new principal of the Hart School District's Sequoia Charter School. The district's Governing Board approved the appointment at its meeting Wednesday evening, and the new position is effective next Monday.

The Wm. S. Hart Union High School has approved a collective bargaining agreement with its teachers this week, resulting in a shortened school year predicted to save approximately $1.7 million for the cash-strapped district in 2010-11.

Hart Union High School District a Model School District, the only district in the nation to achieve the honor this year. Now that students across the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District have had time to get used to the idea of going back to school, it's time for their parents to share the back-to-school experience. Back to School Night programs in the Hart District started with Rancho Pico Junior High School on Aug. 19 and will conclude with Hart High School and Sequoia Charter School on Sept. 29.

Performing arts programs in the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District schedule a number of events and programs throughout the year that are open to the public at little or no cost. Reservations may be required for some of the more popular events or those in smaller venues. Call the sponsoring school for further information.
