La Mesa Junior High School
Over the past several years, La Mesa Junior High School has quietly but steadily strived to create a school environment where all students feel safe and respected. At La Mesa, diversity is seen as a strength and not as a liability.
Through the collaborative efforts of administrators, staff, students and parents, La Mesa has developed a host of programs and activities designed to ensure that their students'emotional and academic needs are met. There has been a particular emphasis on bullying prevention and on breaking down social barriers between student groups.
Programs and activities that help support La Mesa's outstanding diversity awareness effort include: - African American Parent Partnership - Anti-Bullying Club - AVID - Brown Bag Lunch With Local Community Leaders - Bully Box - Counselors visit classes at various times of year to discuss bully prevention - Cultural assemblies - Mix It Up Day - Multicultural Luncheon - No Name Calling Week - PEACE class - Peer Mediators - Safe School Ambassadors - Staff Development focused on African American and ELL students - Teen Truth Presentation
The entire La Mesa school community is actively engaged in making the school a place where all staff and students feel welcomed and appreciated.
The Valuing Diversity Award is presented for these outstanding efforts.
Congratulations, Lobos!
