The California Department of Education has released its Accountability Progress Report, today. This year, the Hart District's API score of 824 is an increase of 8 points from last year's score. The district's outstanding API score is the result of efforts by teachers, staff and administrators at all district schools. The report lists the performance of California public schools based on two accountability systems, the state's Academic Performance Index (API) and the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

Gail Pinsker, a long-time Santa Clarita Valley resident and education advocate, has been named community liaison officer for the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District. The appointment was approved by the district Governing Board at its Wednesday evening meeting and is effective immediately.

Pete Getz, who has served as assistant principal at Canyon High School since 2007, has been named the new principal of the Hart School District's Sequoia Charter School. The district's Governing Board approved the appointment at its meeting Wednesday evening, and the new position is effective next Monday.

The Wm. S. Hart Union High School has approved a collective bargaining agreement with its teachers this week, resulting in a shortened school year predicted to save approximately $1.7 million for the cash-strapped district in 2010-11.
