Love to practice!!

Print out your own practice card!

The most important aspect of becoming a good musician is PRACTICE!  The best possible support you can give your child during their musical endeavor is to encourage them to spend time on their instrument at home.  Thirty to forty-five minutes every day is much better than two and a half hours once a week!  Bad habits can begin when proper technique is not used.  I strongly suggest that your child be enrolled with a private teacher.  A well-balanced musician must learn the difference of how to play as an individual and play with a group.

Private Teacher Listing

Practice cards must be returned EVERY MONDAY with a parent/guardian signature, approximately five to six times per quarter.  Practice cards that are missing first and last names, parent signature, or class period will be counted as no practice.

Late practice cards are not accepted.

Want to sound better?  Incorporate this drill in your warm-up routine.  Use all the notes (2 octaves) from your chromatic scale.  Set your metronome:    quarter note = 100

               P r a c t i c e   R o u t i n e

Warm-up    10-20 min.

Think / Analyze music   10-20 min.

Main body of practice   30-50 min.

-Long tones

-Scales

-Tonguing drills

-Sight reading

-Lip slurs (brass)

-Subdivide difficult measures and "say-clap" them using dash system.

-Sing phrases using your "head voice"

-Figure out where and where NOT to breathe.

-Discover the purpose of every song.  What style is the piece?  What picture are you playing to?

-Practice difficult sections of music.

-Use metronome set at slow tempo's until the difficult section can be played 5 out of 5 times in a row. Then increase the tempo slightly.  Repeat.  You are looking to play IN CONTROL.... not fast and out of control.

The more you practice, the better you get.... The better you get, the more fun you have.... The more fun you have, the more you practice!
