La Mesa has Accelerated Reader (often called "AR") tests for approximately 3,900 books. Students select books from the list, and take computerized multiple-choice tests on the books. Tests are administered by appointment with the student's English teacher. Points are earned according to the difficulty of the book.
Neither reading level nor point value rate books based on subject matter, however often higher values are associated with more mature content level.

Before you check out an AR book (or any other book), read a few pages and be sure that you have selected a book that suits your individual ability and that it is appropriate for you.
