Mission Statement
The mission of the Electives Department of Rio Norte Junior High School is to foster success in an environment that develops the whole student. To this end, the elective teachers provide beginning and advanced level elective courses and sponsor special events both on and off campus. The elective teachers combine traditional and innovative lesson plans to help students develop a readiness to work, create, perform, invent, and care for themselves and others. Throughout their classes, the elective teachers strive to help students:
- demonstrate that they value their physical and social health by making wise personal choices.
- demonstrate an appreciation of, and competence in, the visual and performing arts.
- develop their skills in the contemporary sciences and technology.
- develop character that shows respect for themselves and for the diversity found in their community.
As a department we are committed to our curriculum, supportive of each other and our individual programs, and determined to continually meet the needs of and encourage the growth of the Rio Norte community. We strive to create an environment in which students can find a sense of identity and belonging and equip them with the skills that will aid them in the transition from school to work.
