C.W. Driver began the modernization of Saugus High School's campus the summer of 2004. Saugus received millions of dollars in modernization funds with a portion of this money coming from Measure V funding, the general obligation bond passed in November 2001, which is paid through an assessment on resident's property tax bills.
The modernization on Saugus High will be completed in phases to limit the impact on student learning and campus services. For the next year, the main entrance of the campus has been relocated to between Buildings "A" and "B" and the administration building will remain open with all services intact. The Administrative quad area in addition to the JV softball field will be closed for the duration of the modernization as new building will be constructed in these locations.
This past summer accomplished several significant milestones: 1) establishment of a 13 building temporary classroom "village"; 2) an extensive amount of underground infrastructure relocations, upgrades, and replacements; 3) creation of brand new inter-building courtyard spaces; 4) the complete renovation of Bldg. "C" and "E". Bldg. "C" is now a comprehensive computer laboratory and the former Bldg. "E" theater is now a multi-purpose room, to be used for many school activities in coming years.
This fall, C.W. Driver will begin the complete modernization of Bldgs. "K", "Q" and "P" and continue onto the installation of a brand new maple gymnasium floor with motorized bleachers in Bldg. "G" and the renovation of Bldg. "B". Looking ahead to the summer of 2005, the campus will see construction begin on the new science complex and the replacement Administration/Library building as well as a new Amphitheater Quad.
During the next year, there may be some small inconveniences on campus, but all efforts are being made by C.W. Driver and the Saugus High School staff to ensure no losses in the delivery of a quality education to Centurion students.
