About the District
The William S. Hart Union High School District, located in the northern part of Los Angeles County, serves approximately 21,000 students in grades seven through twelve in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The Hart District combines a rich tradition of history with a strong sense of community – ONE HART. Across the District’s seven comprehensive high schools, a continuation school, early college high school, independent study school, six junior high schools, an adult school, and a unique program serving students with significant emotional issues you will find 2,000 staff members committed to preparing our students for the many opportunities they will encounter in their future.
The Hart District is designated an Exemplary District by the California Department of Education. District schools have been the recipient of many distinctions including the California Distinguished School Award, the California Gold Ribbon Award, the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award, California Model Continuation School designation, and Exemplary Arts Program recognition. The District has also won the coveted Golden Bell Award multiple times for its diversity awareness and anti-bullying programs, its summer Intensive Literacy Program, an exemplary physical education program, its drug and alcohol education and prevention program, and its therapeutic program for students with significant emotional issues. Six of the comprehensive high schools are repeatedly recognized as Best High Schools by U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, and The Washington Post.
The performance of Hart District students on the state’s annual academic and physical fitness assessments consistently rank in the top tier of districts of its size in Los Angeles County and the State of California. Extra-curricular programs including athletics and performing arts are available on all campuses and are regionally, state, and nationally recognized as award-winning and provide exceptional opportunities for students beyond the classroom. Athletic teams in the Hart District have earned multiple CIF and state championships. Numerous students have earned Division I scholarships and several student athletes have gone on to successful professional athletic careers.
The Hart District is committed to providing students with the necessary training and skills to be successful in their future. Students are prepared for post-secondary life with strong collegiate, civic, and business partnerships including 26 career paths and technical programs. The District boasts a 94.5% graduation rate and historically, more than 90% of District graduates go on to post-secondary education, enrolling in four-year colleges and universities or two-year community colleges, including career technical programs. Further, students receive more than $25 million in academic scholarships each year from colleges and universities throughout the country.
A focus on wellness is evident in the Hart District. Campuses are equipped with wellness centers, wellness coordinators, and school social workers. The District employs a full team of over 50 licensed and pre-licensed therapists within the Counseling Department to provide intensive therapeutic services. Student Care Lines at each site provide students and community members a venue to report concerns. With a strong commitment to safety and wellness, students and families can feel confident that campuses are safe environments and that the security of students and staff is the #1 priority of the Hart District.
